The SCS1D (and SCS1M) is the simplified package solution from stanton where the mixer, controller and sound card is integrated in the same bundle.
A huge amount of flashy midi-gear is integrated into these devices such as LCD displays, LED rings surrounding the encoders and a 10" motorized platter that truly looks and feels like a real vinyl as it circles round and round on the controller. Even the pitch fader is motorized so that you could use just one controller and switch between different decks in your software to see the pitch fader realign itself each time. Oh, and it allows you to daisy-chain the devices if your laptop were to run out of firewire ports.
The asking price of about 800 Euro is not that bad when considering the amount of control you get in one piece. But you'll need the SCS1M to get everything working and that's another 600 Euro. And the software support from stanton has been lacking quite significantly according to numerous sources. From what I've understood it's also impossible to map this device by yourself - you've completely put yourself in stantons tender care if you buy one. And some people argues that this "care" by stanton doesn't match up to the pile of money they threw at it.
If this were to change in any way, please let me know so I can re-phrase this last part. In the meantime check out some bug free vid's:
